Acupuncture

Acupuncture is complimentary to Physiotherapy for pain relief, to enhance tissue healing and repair and to release stress and tension.

It involves the use of very fine, sterile needles which are inserted at points sensitive on palpation. The brain registers this sensitivity and reacts by stimulating the release of naturally producing chemicals in our body called endorphines and enkephalines, in essence – our body’s own painkillers. This helps to reduce or sometimes, eliminate the pain.

Once the needles are in place, it is normal to feel a mild ache, warmth or heaviness. This is known as ‘De Qi’ and is a sign that the body’s own natural painkillers are being released.

Marie has found acupuncture to be particularly beneficial in clients with tension headaches, stress, postural issues, neck and back pain, nerve root pain and osteoarthritis of the knee.
